Field rock and glass gravestone | “For Her”

Gravestone “For Her”, reveals a glass cross in a field rock. It is the central element of the memorial site composition. This unique gravestone is supplemented and accentuated by a glass insert in the grave border and the “Minimalist” glass bench.

Artist Ernest Vitin, together with stonecutter Māris Apinis, created a very complicated gravestone design as per the client’s wishes. The client had intended a composition – a glass cross in a forged boulder. The customer’s quest for light is reflected throughout the memorial ethos. A careful and lengthy search for the perfect boulder, the glass elements,  the glass bench and a non-traditional, light-grey grave borders – together create a single uplifting ensemble. Drawings of Latvian ethnographic signs, made by graphic designer Kate Seržane, decorate the grave and protect the soul.

Although one can not return the beloved person who has left this world, there may remain a desire to thank them for the bright memories of the times spent together. It is these memories, that one might want to preserve and cherish… and maybe this memorial is erected to retain them?

In respect, memory and honour for all the beautiful and unforgettable times.
