Maintenance of glass headstones and monuments

Our glass memorial monuments are not only durable but also very modest when it comes to maintenance. Characteristics of glass, such as density and non-porousness, prevent dirt from settling and moss growth. Therefore, taking care of a glass headstone is easier and less time consuming than taking care of its stone and granite counterparts.

Consequently, the biggest cleaning issue usually is dirt getting onto the bottom part of the headstone during the rainy season. You can prevent the glass monument from getting stained by wet sand by having a higher granite base, thus raising the glass memorial monument further up from the ground. Our minimum suggested height for a granite base is 10 cm | 3,94”. Nevertheless, if you have a lower base and a sandy area, you will easily get the dirt off with the dry cleaning method detailed below. And if you feel like having some extra shine, you may use wet treatment also described below.

Cleaning when dry

During your regular maintenance, clean your glass headstone when dry, using a very soft brush. We suggest using any car surface cleaning brush to avoid coarse abrasion and scratches.

Wet cleaning

Use wet treatment twice a year, because doing so without a good reason, increases the possibility of rubbing dirt into the microscopic space between the layers of glass. For wet cleaning use a soft, moist, but not dripping wet, cloth or sponge. You may use any alcohol-based glass or limestone sediment spray cleaner. Avoid ammoniac-based and other liquid solutions that you are unsure of.

Please, do not try cleaning the memorial in other ways than suggested above. In case of any questions regarding maintenance and cleaning of Glasstone glass headstones, please contact us and we shall gladly assist you!
